چکیده

A graph is called diameter-k-critical if its diameter is k, and the removal of any edge strictly increases the diameter. In this paper, we prove several results related to a conjecture often attributed to Murty and Simon, regarding the maximum number of edges that any diameter-k-critical graph can have. In particular, we disprove a longstanding conjecture of Caccetta and Häggkvist (that in every diameter-2-critical graph, the average edge-degree is at most the number of vertices), which promised to completely solve the extremal problem for diameter-2-critical graphs. On the other hand, we prove that the same claim holds for all higher diameters, and is asymptotically tight, resolving the average edge-degree question in all cases except diameter-2. We also apply our techniques to prove several bounds for the original extremal question, including the correct asymptotic bound for diameter-k-critical graphs, and an upper bound of ( 6 +o(1))n 2 for the number of edges in a diameter-3-critical graph.

A characterization of diameter-2-critical graphs with no antihole of length four

A graph G is diameter-2-critical if its diameter is two and the deletion of any edge increases the diameter. In this paper we characterize the diameter-2-critical graphs with no antihole of length four, that is, the diameter-2-critical graphs whose complements have no induced 4-cycle. Murty and Simon conjectured that the number of edges in a diameter-2-critical graph of order n is at most n2/4 ...

On the diameter of total domination vertex critical graphs

In this paper, we consider various types of domination vertex critical graphs, including total domination vertex critical graphs and independent domination vertex critical graphs and connected domination vertex critical graphs. We provide upper bounds on the diameter of them, two of which are sharp. MSC (2010): 05C12, 05C69

Regular vertex diameter critical graphs

A graph is called vertex diameter critical if its diameter increases when any vertex is removed. Regular vertex diameter critical graphs of every valency k ≥ 2 and diameter d ≥ 2 exist, raising the question of identifying the smallest such graphs. We describe an infinite family of k-regular vertex diameter critical graphs of diameter d with at most kd+ (2k − 3) vertices. This improves the previ...

A Note on Total Domination Critical Graphs

The total domination number of G denoted by γt(G) is the minimum cardinality of a total dominating set of G. A graph G is total domination vertex critical or just γt-critical, if for any vertex v of G that is not adjacent to a vertex of degree one, γt(G − v) < γt(G). If G is γt-critical and γt(G) = k, then G is k-γt-critical. Haynes et al [The diameter of total domination vertex critical graphs...

Total Domination Edge Critical Graphs with Maximum Diameter

Denote the total domination number of a graph G by γt(G). A graph G is said to be total domination edge critical, or simply γtcritical, if γt(G + e) < γt(G) for each edge e ∈ E(G). For 3t-critical graphs G, that is, γt-critical graphs with γt(G) = 3, the diameter of G is either 2 or 3. We characterise the 3t-critical graphs G with diam G = 3.
